Last month, I had the opportunity to hear one of my favorite authors, Adriana Trigiani, speak about her latest book All the stars in the heavens and her new movie “Big Stone Gap. It was a delightful evening, that felt more like an intimate conversation between friends. This free event was part of the
[email protected] series sponsored by the Nashville Public Library.

- Sunday, December 6, 2015, at 3:00 PM – Mitch Albom will talk about his latest novel,The Magic Strings of Frankie Pesto. At nine years old, Frankie is sent to America in the bottom of a boat. His only possession is an old guitar and six magical strings. But Frankie’s talent is touched by the gods, and it weaves him through the musical landscape of the twentieth century, from classical to jazz to rock and roll. Along the way, Frankie influences many artists: he translates for Django Reinhardt, advises Little Richard, backs up Elvis Presley, and counsels Hank Williams. Frankie elevates to a rock star himself, yet his gift becomes his burden, as he realizes that he can actually affect people’s futures: his guitar strings turn blue whenever a life is altered. Overwhelmed by life, loss, and this power, he disappears for years, only to reemerge in a spectacular and mysterious farewell. With its Forrest Gump-like journey through the music world, The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto is a classic in the making.
Tickets for the Mitch Albom event will be available beginning November 22, 2015, at 8:15 AM.
- Monday, December 7, 2015, at 6:15 PM – Jon Meacham, Destiny and Power. In his latest biography, Meacham chronicles the life of George Herbert Walker Bush, drawing on President Bush’s personal diaries, on the diaries of his wife, Barbara, and interviews with the 41st president and his family. From the Oval Office to Camp David, from his study in the private quarters of the White House to Air Force One, from the fall of the Berlin Wall to the first Gulf War to the end of Communism, Destiny and Power charts the thoughts, decisions, and emotions of a modern president who may have been the last of his kind. This is the human story of a man who was, like the nation he led, at once noble and flawed.
Tickets for the Jon Meacham event will be available beginning November 23, 2015 at 8:15 AM.
