A new look for one year in

Welcome to the new, updated version of AntiochTenn.com.

As we rounded the corner celebrating one full year in business serving the Antioch community, we noticed a couple of important things.

One, about 59 percent of our traffic – now more than 25,000 unique visitors each month – is coming from mobile. Another seven percent visits the site on tablets.

The old site worked OK on mobile, but it really was designed for desktop readers, or about one-third of our total readership. That didn’t make much sense, so we started pursuing a new design for the site – one that works great on mobile but solves a number of mobile issues we kept running into.

The second thing we noticed –and this was the number one complaint we received in the last year – was that the site was too busy. Where do you look? How do you find the story you want? We had stories, navigation menus, ads, polls, and all sorts of stuff all over the home page. It was way too easy to get lost.

So as part of the redesign, we’ve simplified things into a more linear format. I think it is a less busy look, and for navigation help you can still search the site and use the traditional news categories we’ve established.

A couple of the key improvements, though, lie in support for advertisers, an enhanced business directory (live but with more features coming), and a far more robust calendar of events.

You can use this handy form to submit your event listing for free. Remember, the more details you can provide, including accurately filling out the venue information, the better your listing and the more attention you’ll get. As always, your event doesn’t have to be located in Antioch as long as it is open to the people of Antioch.

For our advertisers, we are now offering a fuller, more robust set of options, automated traffic reporting, and deeper support. The average advertiser now ranges from 33,000 to 55,000 impressions per month, depending on location and ad size. We estimate the mobile enhancements alone will increase those impressions by 60-75 percent. At our low rates, this is a huge value for businesses trying to reach the Antioch market.

From inception, this site has been about serving Antioch by providing a centralized location for readers, groups, organizations, and businesses to meet and share information. We still have a lot of work to do, and I hope we’re moving in the right direction.
