Autopsy findings show that a woman whose Tuesday death was initially thought to be related to drug abuse actually suffered from a traumatic internal injury, prompting a homicide investigation by South Precinct detectives.

Cheyenne Toineeca, 30, of Pebble Creek Drive, was unresponsive when she was taken to Southern Hills Medical Center by ambulance early Tuesday from a friend’s home at 5148 Linbar Drive. She died some hours later.

Witnesses have reported that Toineeca was discovered on the ground in front of the home between 3 a.m. & 4 a.m. Tuesday.  Officers were told she was awake and coherent, but could not get up without help.  Toineeca’s friend assisted her inside.  She complained that her ribs hurt, and was found to be in medical distress at 6:30 a.m.

Detectives are following up on information that Toineeca may have been injured during an altercation with a man in the recent past.  Anyone seeing her last Sunday or Monday, or having information about an altercation, is asked to contact South Precinct Investigations at 615-862-7744 or Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.  Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and qualify for a cash reward.
