Snow falling in Antioch

Update 7:40 – TDOT is now reporting an multi-vehicle accident on I-24 near exit 57A, Haywood lane. Westbound (inbound) traffic is delayed and the on-ramp is blocked. Eastbound traffic is not impacted. The wreck is estimated to be cleared by 8:10 a.m.

Update 7:35 a.m. – TDOT is reporting increased accumulation on the Interstates in the Nashville area. So far, no significant traffic incidents have been reported on Interstate 24, however, AntiochTenn.com is hearing of cars sliding off the road in various locations throughout Antioch.

The weather forecasts have gotten it right. People throughout Antioch and Nashville awoke this morning to snow fall throughout the area. The snowfall started in Nashville just before 6 a.m.

Today’s weather forecast for Antioch has been revised. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect until 6 a.m. Saturday. It looks like we’ve already passed the high temperature for the day and highs won’t pass the freezing mark. With local variations, up to six inches of snow (in some areas) can be expected.

From the National Weather Service: “Light ice accumulations up to two tenths of an inch are possible north of I-40 early Friday morning. Later in the day, heavy snow is expected in some areas with 6 to 10 inches of snow possible north of I-40 and west of I-65, and 3 to 7 inches possible north of I-40 and east of I-65. To the south of I-40, snow totals will range from around 1 inch near the Alabama border up to possibly 5 inches near I-40. Major travel impacts are expected due to the snow and ice on area roadways today into at least Saturday as temperatures remain below freezing, and travel may become impossible in some areas of Northwest Middle Tennessee.”
