Corvell Conley, the 21-year-old man shot last Thursday afternoon inside a car at the intersection of Rural Hill Road and Bridgecrest Drive, died during the night from complications after undergoing surgery Tuesday at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Detectives had a meaningful meeting with Conley before the surgery and are pursuing strong leads as they work to confirm the identity of the gunman and bring him into custody.
Conley was the driver of a black Honda Civic that made a U-turn in the intersection at approximately 2:40 p.m. Thursday. The car then stopped momentarily before going over a curb into a wood line. When the Honda came to rest, a gunman got out of the passenger side and ran west on Rural Hill Road. Conley fell out of the car and crawled across the intersection where he was helped by passersby. He suffered wounds to his jaw and neck and was expected to recover. A plastic bag of marijuana was recovered from the car.
