Happy Monday (or is it?) Antioch!

There is quite a bit going on this week, and the best part is there are a lot of free family activities, so let’s pull out those weekly planners and dive right in.

First, tonight (Monday) is the weekly Southeast Farmer’s Market. It is held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the park adjacent to the library and Ford Ice Center. Last week’s kickoff was pretty darned successful and we expect that success to build this week.

The Metro Public Schools Board of Education meets at 5 p.m. Tuesday at 2601 Bransford Avenue. Agenda

Tuesday, the Crossings Nashville Action Partnership will meet at Nashville State Community College’s Southeast Campus (in the Global Mall) at 8:30 a.m. This is always a great time to learn about different activities and events in the community as well as to hear about new businesses coming into the area and what existing businesses are up to. I always learn something at these monthly meetings. They last about one hour.

On Friday, there are two opportunities to catch free movies with the family.

The first is at our wonderful Southeast Branch Library at 2 p.m. Their Drive-in Matinee Movie is ideal for children of all ages and light refreshments are served.

The second movie will Frozen and it will be in the park adjacent to the Library and the Ford Ice Center. Festivities will start at 7 p.m. Friday with the movie starting at dark, shortly after 8 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs and snacks for this free movie. Also, Ford Ice Center will have open skate from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Perhaps the big event of the week is the Nashville Symphony’s performance in Southeast Park, adjacent to the Library and the Ford Ice Center. This is the first-ever summer concert by the Symphony in Antioch, during which the orchestra will perform works by Bernstein, Rossini, Bizet, Dvořák and more under the direction of Associate Conductor Vinay Parameswaran. Residents of all ages are welcome and blankets, lawn chairs and picnic dinners are encouraged. Don’t miss this night of beautiful music under the stars!

Weather Update: It should be sunny to partly cloudy Monday and there is a chance of rain later tonight, continuing into Tuesday and Wednesday. The rest of the week should be nice and sunny. Highs all week are in the mid-90s, so be ready for the heat.
