Laura Schloesser, the newly hired director of The Fairgrounds Nashville, will begin her job on Aug. 15, The Fairgrounds Nashville has announced. Schloesser was unanimously hired by the five-member Metro Board of Fair Commissioners at a special meeting on June 27, 2016.
Schloesser was selected from a national search process that produced a field of 134 applicants for the job. She will receive an annual salary of $90,000.
“Laura brings deep experience and a strong background in running a city department, and we are excited about the passion and commitment she has for the Nashville Fairgrounds,” said Board Chair Ned Horton. “There is tremendous momentum with Mayor Barry’s recent capital commitment of $12 million and new leadership from Laura, and we look forward to partnering with the community as we move forward.”
Schloesser has been Chief of Administration and External Affairs at the Milwaukee County Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture. She has been with the department since 1999. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Concordia University of Wisconsin and a Master of Public Health from Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine.
“I am beyond thrilled to have been selected to join The Fairgrounds Nashville team,” Schloesser said. “I want to thank the Fair Board commissioners and Mayor Barry for their support and confidence. This is a transformative time for this community asset, and I’m honored to be a part of it.”
