South Precinct detectives are swearing out an attempted murder arrest warrant against Olvin Antonio Zuniga-Flores, 33, for this morning’s violent hammer and knife attack on his brother-in-law inside the victim’s Chelsea Way residence.
Zuniga-Flores is also being named in a warrant charging assault for grabbing his 10-year-old niece by the hair and pulling her into another room.
The victim, Jesus Armando Alvarez, 43, is in critical condition with a severe head injury at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
The investigation to this point shows that Alvarez was sitting in his home when he was approached from behind and attacked with a small sledge hammer and a knife. Zuniga-Flores is alleged to have said that he was going to kill Alvarez and his family. During the attack, the 10-year-old managed to flee to a neighbor’s residence for help. Alvarez ran to the street and stopped a passing vehicle for assistance.
Zuniga-Flores fled Chelsea Way in the victim’s 2000s model white Chevrolet pickup truck with a camper style toolbox.
Neither the victim nor his family could provide a specific reason for the attack, which they said was completely unprovoked.
Anyone seeing Olvin Antonio Zuniga-Flores or knowing his whereabouts is asked to immediately call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. Spanish speaking operators are available. Citizens can also call the Emergency Communications Center at 615-862-8600.
