The week ahead: Let’s just say it’ll be busy

Last week proved to be quite a busy week for Antioch. It was great to see HCA TriStar open its new medical practice at The Crossings, and with CNAP, School Board meetings, and other activities, things were pretty hectic.

This week looks to be no different, so let’s break out the planners and take a look at our schedule.

First, don’t forget that early voting for the August 4 election is underway in Davidson County. This story   contains voting times and locations.

Monday night is of course, the Southeast Farmer’s Market. It is from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Southeast Park, adjacent to the Southeast Branch Library. This week, at least a dozen vendors are signed up to participate and their wares include, but are not limited to, fresh produce, freshly made pasta, plants, cheesecake, dog treats, breads, meats, and so much more. Attendance is growing every week as our local farmer’s market is gaining traction. Head on down Monday and check it out.

Tuesday is the regular Metro Council Meeting. It is held at 6:30 p.m. in the David Scobey Council Chambers downtown. Here’s the agenda.

On Wednesday, there will be a Listen & Learn for the Antioch and Cane Ridge Clusters with Dr. Shawn Joseph, the new Director of Schools. It is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Faith Life Church, 917 Bell Road in Antioch. In addition to Dr. Joseph, School Board Members Tyese Hunter, District 6; Will Pinkston, District 7; and Anna Shepherd, District 4 and Vice Chair, will be present. Childcare will be provided.

Finally, there are three great kids events at the Southeast Branch Library we wanted to highlight:

  1. Drive-In Matinee Movie: Starts at 2 p.m. Friday with a kid-friendly movie. Light refreshments are served.
  2. The Puppet Truck Presents Aesop’s Fables, Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Lasting about an hour, the puppet show will offer new takes on classic stories.
  3. Always fun, Scott Tripp The Balloon Guy will be at the Library from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday. He will help youngsters explore a world of balloons, magic and juggling.

The weather this week will have a common theme – heat and sun. Highs in the mid to upper 90s, lows in the 70s and sunny or partly sunny all week. Tuesday there is a 40 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms.
