Child dies after being struck by SUV

The 21-month-old child fatally injured Monday evening after being backed over by an SUV in the parking lot of Stonebrook Apartments on Hickory Trace Drive is identified as Siang Hoih, who lived in the complex.

Her mother, Thang Cing, 28, was also struck.  She received minor injuries and was treated and released from Southern Hills Medical Center.

The investigation shows that Taria Fakhree, 61, was backing out of a parking stall when he struck the victims, who were walking in the lot.  Fakhree began to pull forward, unaware that the two had been hit, but stopped after seeing Cing lying in the parking lot frantically waving at him.  Fakhree loaded mother and child into his 2006 Nissan Xterra and drove them to Southern Hills.  Siang Hoih was pronounced dead on arrival.

Fakhree remained at the hospital and was cooperative with officers.  He showed no signs of impairment.  No charges have been placed at present.  Once complete, the full investigative findings will be staffed with the District Attorney’s Office.

Thang Cing and her family are refugees from the nation of Burma in Southeast Asia.
