Hermitage Precinct detectives tonight traveled to Lavergne to arrest Latasha Starks on a 1st degree murder indictment for the February 12th fatal shooting of Nashvillian Algernon Cross in the parking lot of 449 Bell Road.
Starks, 38, was taken into custody without incident at her home with the assistance of Lavergne police. Her co-defendant, Jerome Sawyers, 36, who is also facing a 1st degree murder indictment, is in federal custody in Arkansas.
The investigation, which is being led by Detective William Mathis, shows that Cross, 40, stopped in the parking lot to make a marijuana purchase. After getting out and conversing with two persons in a pickup truck (alleged to have been Starks & Sawyers), Cross was shot in the head. Cross’ teenage daughter was present when this occurred.
