One facing charges after drug-related shooting

Savion Wilson, 22, faces multiple charges after an apparent drug-related shooting Friday outside the Sunrise Market at 3606 Hamilton Church Road after which he went on a crime spree in an attempt to avoid capture.

Wilson arrived at the market around 9:15 a.m.  He got out of a red Pontiac and approached the occupants of a silver car.  The driver of the silver car drove off after an apparent altercation.  Wilson fired multiple shots toward the fleeing car.  The driver of the Pontiac then drove off without Wilson.  Officers and a police helicopter quickly responded. Pilot Officer Jon McVey spotted Wilson running through a wooded area behind the market.  Wilson then got back into the Pontiac which had been parked nearby.  His direction of flight was relayed to ground units below.

The Pontiac wrecked at Smith Springs Road and Hobson Pike. The driver, Kendal Leach, 20, is charged with evading arrest, driving on a suspended license, and marijuana possession. Wilson again fled on foot into a nearby neighborhood.  He attempted to force entry into a residence in the 4300 block of Cambridge Drive. No one was home.  He fired several shots in the backyard before jumping the fence and entering a second home on Benchmark Drive.  That homeowner saw him coming and fled out the front door.  Wilson broke the rear glass door and entered, cutting himself.  A .40 caliber pistol was later found lying on the bed in one of the bedrooms. Wilson found the victim’s keys to a Mercedes SUV.  He drove the vehicle through the garage door.  The police helicopter continued to follow the stolen SUV with ground units below until Wilson struck the rear of a Volkswagen Golf in the 7600 block of Whites Creek Pike in Joelton.   The driver of the Volkswagen pulled over.  Wilson forced her and her 10-year-old son out of the car.  As he attempted to flee in the Volkswagen, he struck two police cars before crashing into a ditch.  He was taken into custody.

Wilson was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he is expected to be discharged tonight.  Upon his release, he faces multiple charges including aggravated assault, attempted burglary, aggravated burglary, carjacking/robbery, and evading arrest.

Wilson, of Arbor Ridge Drive, has no known local arrest history.

The man believed to be driving the silver car involved in the initial shooting has been contacted.  He was not injured.  The investigation continues.
