Metro Schools to close Thursday due to weather

It isn’t a snow day, but Metro Nashville Public Schools will be unexpectedly closed Thursday March 30, 2017, due to the possibility of severe weather.

An announcement on the MNPS Facebook page read:

“*** SCHOOL CLOSING ALERT ***

Due to expected inclement weather, all Metro Schools will be closed on Thursday, March 30, 2017. Principals, Central Office, and 12-month employees are required to report to work.”

Additionally some schools sent text notifications.

As of 11:20 p.m., there is no word on Ezell-Harding Christian School or Lighthouse Christian School.

According to the National Weather Service, severe storms, high winds, and tornadoes are a possibility.

Two rounds of severe weather are expected. One in the morning with another more severe round expected in the afternoon.

“Severe storms damaging winds, large hail, and possibly several tornadoes are expected across Middle Tennessee on Thursday afternoon and evening,” according to the National Weather Service.

Several other area districts, such as Robertson, Dickson, Decatur, and Benton County Schools to name a few are also closing ahead of Thursday’s expected severe weather.
