Antioch theater shifts to first-run movies

Antioch’s AMC Classic Antioch 8 movie theater, formerly the Carmike 8, is shifting to first-run movies starting today.

Some of the offerings starting today include Fate of the Furious, Smurfs: The Lost Village, Boss Baby, Get Out, Power Rangers, Life, The Case for Christ, and The Zookeeper’s Wife.

The first run movies will come with them a first-run ticket price. A spot check showed ticket prices to be $6.99 for adults and $4.99 for children ages 2-12.

AMC acquired Carmike Theaters, the former owner of the Antioch theater, in late 2016 in a $1.1 billion deal. The purchase made AMC the largest theater chain in the world.

Ryan Noonan, AMC’s public relations director, said the company has been working to incorporate hundreds of theaters (260 since the start of the year) into AMC’s circuit.

“We’re still working though a number of details, first and foremost, to incorporate the former Carmike locations into our circuit, which is no small task given the amount of technology involved,” Noonan wrote in an email.

While there is no specific word yet as to whether the Antioch location will be refurbished, Noonan said, “As we move forward, our facilities team is conducting thorough evaluations of all of the theatres to make determinations on remodels or refurbishments.”

He added that all locations, including Antioch, will receive freestyle Coca-Cola machines and enhanced menu options later this Summer.
