Ezell-Harding names new boy’s basketball coach

Ezell-Harding Christian School is excited to announce the hire of Michael Mays to be the new Head Boy’s Basketball Coach and Middle School Physical Education Teacher.

Coach Mays has taught and coached basketball at Lipscomb Academy for the past 12 years, having coached middle school, freshmen, JV, and most recently as the Associate Head Coach for the varsity team.

These teams have won a middle school state championship, 2 high school region championships, with 3 sub state appearances, and have earned a state tournament berth. He has served as the Middle School PE Teacher at Lipscomb Academy during this tenure. Coach Mays has also coached the varsity boys and girls golf teams, having won 6 district championships, 4 region championships, 1 state runner-up, and an individual state champion.

Coach Mays played basketball at the NCAA Division 1 level at Lipscomb University during the transition to the Atlantic Sun Conference.  After 4 years of college basketball, Michael received the “Best Teammate” award, which was subsequently renamed the “Mike Mays Award”.

Coach Mays began his basketball career at David Lipscomb High School where, during the 1999-2000 season, the team won the regular season district championship, region championship, sectional championship, and advanced to the final 4 of the state. Michael was all-district and all-region player and won the “Mustang Award” as a senior.

Coach Mays will be on campus Monday to conduct the Ezell-Harding Basketball Camp and to hold tryouts for the Varsity Team. Camp is for grades 2nd-8th and is from 10-3 on Monday. Coach Mays is allowing boys who have not signed up for camp to come anyway. The cost is $50 and you need to bring your own lunch. Tryouts are for any rising 9th-12th grade boy and it is from 3:30-5:30. Coach Mays would also like to extend the invitation to any parents to come by at 3:15 on Monday to meet him in the gym.
