Efforts continue to ID two men who ran from murder victim’s truck

South Precinct detectives are continuing in their efforts to identify the two men who ran from murder victim Demareus Merriweather’s Chevrolet Avalanche pickup truck late Saturday night after the vehicle crashed in the parking lot of Quarters Inn & Suites on Bell Road near I-24.

Officers responded to the crash at 11 p.m. Merriweather, 26, who lived on Hickory Hollow Trace, was unresponsive and was quickly rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where doctors discovered that he had been shot in the torso.

Two pistols, one of which was reported stolen out of Rutherford County, were recovered from the Avalanche.

Surveillance video shows the Avalanche enter the motel parking lot at a high rate of speed and strike several parked cars before coming to rest. Two black men then exited the truck and ran toward Cane Ridge Road.
