South Precinct detectives are pursuing strong leads as they work to identify the gunman responsible for Thursday evening’s fatal shooting of Kevion Tate, 18, in a parking lot of Hickory Trace Apartments on Hickory Hollow Place.

Officers were called to the area at 5:15 p.m. Witnesses reported hearing several shots and then seeing multiple vehicles flee the parking lot. Tate was found on the pavement and was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died. A potential drug motive for the gunfire is being explored.
