10 Most Popular Movies and Shows on Amazon Prime Video Right Now

It’s the middle of summer, and Amazon Prime Video is streaming the hits everyone wants to watch.

Even though The Summer I Turned Pretty just dropped its third and final season, it still couldn’t budge the Bosch spinoff Ballard from the No. 1 spot on Prime Video’s most popular movies and shows list.

In fact, the only new entry on this week’s list is Uncharted, a 2022 action movie starring the MCU’s Spider-Man, Tom Holland, and the man who will forever be remembered as Dirk Diggler, Mark Wahlberg.

It wouldn’t be summer without a mindless but fun action movie, and this year’s edition is Heads of State, a buddy action comedy that reunites him with his Suicide Squad costar, Idris Elba.

John Cena plays U.S. President Will Derringer, who must team up with English Prime Minister Sam Clarke (Elba) when Air Force One is shot down over a foreign country. Alone and without any protection, they must rely on their wits — and each other — to survive and find out who wants them dead and why.

Heads of State is goofy fun that relies a lot on Elba and Cena’s considerable onscreen chemistry as mismatched partners in crime. It worked as Heads of State is Prime Video’s most popular movie streaming on the platform right now.

4. ‘We Were Liars’ Season 1

Amazon is the home for buzzworthy YA book-to-show adaptations, and its latest hit is We Were Liars, an eight-episode drama series based on E. Lockhart’s popular novel. The series follows Cadence (Emily Alyn Lind), a teenager who suffered a traumatic brain injury the previous year. She’s trying to figure out what happened to cause her memory to shatter, and the only people she can rely on are “the Liars,” three friends who grew up with Cadence and want her to find the answers she’s looking for.

But Cadence encounters resistance within her own family, particularly her grandfather Harris (David Morse), and she soon realizes that someone doesn’t want her to uncover the truth. With gorgeous leads, summery locations that will make you book a ticket to a nearby beach and a twist ending that has everyone talking, We Were Liars is already Prime Video’s big hit of the summer.

5. ‘Countdown’ Season 1

Amazon’s latest summertime hit is Countdown, an action series that should appeal to Reacher fans as well as dads all over the world.

Supernatural’s Jensen Ackles stars as Detective Mark Meachum, a rebellious LAPD cop who is investigating the mysterious death of a Department of Homeland Security officer. Of course, he uncovers a vast, shadowy conspiracy, and it’s up to him to stop it.

6. ‘One Night in Idaho: The College Murders’ (2025)

In 2022, four University of Idaho students were brutally stabbed one night. The ensuing media frenzy and subsequent capture and conviction of Bryan Christopher Kohberger made the shocking incident a true crime sensation. In the three-episode docuseries One Night in Idaho, friends and family of the victims are interviewed to give some perspective on the personal impact the murders had on them and their communities.

7. ‘Uncharted’ (2022)

This entertaining 2022 action-adventure stars Tom Holland as Nathan Drake, a bartender and pickpocket who teams up with fortune hunter Sully (Mark Wahlberg) to search for treasure belonging to Spanish explorer Ferdinand Magellan. Santiago Moncada (Antonio Banderas) wants it too, so Nathan and Sully will have to learn to trust one another to get the fortune they’ve always wanted.

8. ‘The Chosen: The Last Supper’ (2025)

The Chosen is a faith-based series detailing key events of the Bible, and while that’s been done before, this current adaptation has struck a chord with viewers. Each season is released in theaters first before debuting on streaming a few months later.

The fifth and latest season chronicles the week of the Last Supper, when Jesus attended one last meal with his apostles before his crucifixion.

9. 'The Better Sister' Season 1

For most of her life, Chloe (Jessica Biel) has been the "better sister" over Nicky (Elizabeth Banks). Chloe has a high-paying job, an adoring husband, Adam (Corey Stoll) and a well-behaved teenage son.
