A rare 1972 Ferrari Dino 246 GT with matching numbers and long-term ownership hits the market in pristine condition.
A rare 1972 Ferrari Dino 246 GT, celebrated for its mid-engine balance and timeless Pininfarina design, is set to draw attention as it becomes available after spending nearly four decades in single ownership.

Chassis number 01776, powered by its original 2.4-liter V6 and retaining its factory gearbox, represents a highly desirable “M Series” example. Completed on March 23, 1971, this Dino was originally finished in Blu Dino Metallizzato over Beige and delivered new to the official Ferrari dealer in Rome before being sold to its first owner, Alberto Sarno. Exported to the United States by 1977, it was refinished in the classic red-over-black combination it wears today.

The Dino’s history is well documented, with extensive research by Ferrari historian Marcel Massini and Dino expert Matthias Bartz confirming its authenticity and long-term care. Purchased by a New York collector in 1987, the car remained in his possession for 38 years before being acquired by its current consignor.
Recent servicing has prepared the car for its next chapter. Work completed in 2025 includes a distributor rebuild, new electric fuel pump, water pump replacement, refreshed fluids, and a set of new Michelin XWX tires. Approximately 200 kilometers have been logged since, ensuring the car is mechanically sorted while preserving its originality.
As one of only about 3,500 Dino 246 GTs produced—and part of the highly regarded second-series “M Series” run—this example features desirable upgrades such as five-bolt wheels, seat-mounted headrests, and steel body panels, with only the hood constructed from aluminum.
The Dino nameplate, introduced in the late 1960s, marked Ferrari’s bold move into mid-engine sports cars, combining agile handling, a free-revving six-cylinder, and stunning design. This particular car, offered with its matching-numbers engine and gearbox, embodies the essence of the marque’s golden era and stands as a rare opportunity for collectors seeking an authentic and well-documented example.
