AMG GT XX Concept Aims To Convert You To The EV Bandwagon

With the recent reveal of the AMG GT XX Concept, it seems opinions on the high-performance EV four-door coupe are split. Some love the sleek, technologically saturated design while others find it so off-putting, they’re slamming it outright. But something tells us this is exactly what the Germans were going for.

As the old saying goes, fortune favors the bold. As the field of electric cars continues to expand, the only hope to stand out in the crowd is to go big. While Elon Musk did that in a garish way with the Cybertruck, AMG is going in a bit of a different direction.

Considering this is a preview of how AMG will design and build an EV, we expect it to be more in-your-face than the Mercedes-Benz electrics. The fastback design, swooping bodylines, even the choice of Sunset Beam Orange for the exterior color all resonate swagger.

You’ll note this thing looks somewhat like a racecar on the inside. The cockpit isn’t some plush environment but instead is minimalist. Pull straps instead of handles allow you to close the doors. The almost rectangular steering wheel is reminiscent of the Mercedes-AMG One’s. Plus, there are even paddles which control energy recuperation.

Plus, this thing can get just under 250 miles of range after 5 minutes of rapid charging. That’s starting to compete with gas-powered cars as far as refueling convenience.

All those flashy looks are backed up by truly astounding performance specs. The concept, which previews the upcoming AMG halo model, pushes 1,340-horsepower delivered via three axial flux motors which can push the car to 225 mph.

We don’t know how much torque this thing makes, but we bet it’s a truckload. What we also don’t know is the 0-60 time, which we expect will be blindingly quick.

This thing was designed to shatter track records, so we’ll see if it delivers or all this talk is just that, talk. If it serves up the goods, we don’t see how enthusiasts aren’t won over, including some who have been staunchly against EVs.
