“Bachelor in Paradise” romance recap: Where the couples stand after episode 4

The Golden women were feeling the heat this week on Bachelor in Paradise. Sure, they had the roses, but they also found themselves outnumbered thanks to new arrivals —and a shocking move by one of their own, April.

So where do our Paradise couples stand after episode 4? Let’s recap!

Who arrived: Gary (The Golden Bachelorette), Lea (Joey’s season of The Bachelor); Nancy, Faith (The Golden Bachelor)

Who was sent home: CK, Jack, and RJ

No new developments: Parisa and Brian (ugh); Bailey and Jeremy (double ugh); Alexe and Andrew; Jess and Spencer; Jill and Sean

Despite the drama, Kat sticks with Dale

These two were going strong... until Kat asked Dale a simple question about Alli Jo, who made a play for him last week: “Did you guys kiss outside of the kissing booth?” Bro paused for five full seconds and then choked out the truth: “Ummm… you know… ummm… one time.” On the one hand, Dale was honest about kissing Alli Jo. On the other, he only told Kat about the Alli Jo smooch because she asked — and as I’m sure you guessed, rose lovers, Kat does NOT love it.

Kat is displeased on 'Bachelor in Paradise'

Does Kat overreact a teeny-tiny bit? Sure. But Dale did himself no favors by going from zero to hyper-defensive in 10 seconds flat. Nor did I love how he kept barking at her to “move past it” — and like Kat, I wanted to stab myself in the ear every time Dale said “deaded it” with Alli Jo. Another red flag? Dale keeps yelling at the tropical birds to shut up! Who doesn’t like the sound of birds singing, for God’s sake? Plus, Dale’s expletive-ridden rant after the rose ceremony stressed me out. Kat, you in danger, girl.

April dumps Jack for... Jonathon?

The episode opens on a scene of April flirting with/borderline sexually harassing Jonathon, so I suppose this didn’t come out of nowhere.

LOL, the fear on his face! Herewith, the sequence of events: First, Captain Kim — who, you’ll recall, was flirting hard with April last week — friend-zones her out of nowhere, and April is understandably upset.

Then Jack puts the moves on her, and they share (another) passionate kiss. It seems like she’s open to giving Jack her rose. “You just came and saved me in more ways than you know,” she tells him.

Still, our kooky queen just can’t stop thinking about our sweet medium king Jonathon – and she can’t bear the idea that he might go home without finding a woman who appreciates him. “If I could give you my rose, I would.” Not sure why she thought it was against the rules — doesn’t April know that anything goes in Paradise? And there’s no way producers would let either Jonathon or April go home this early.

Natascha dumps RJ for Gary

Natascha, who hit it off with RJ from the get-go, is still having a nice time with the financial advisor. They begin the day reclining on beach chairs and musing about life. “RJ is funny, he has some great one-liners,” says Natascha. “We can relax and take it easy.” Like most of the other sexy senior ladies in Paradise, however, Natascha is a smitten kitten the moment Gary walks onto the beach.

Gary enjoys his chat with Natascha (“She is the gasoline that gets the car moving”), but he chooses to ask Leslie out on the date instead. Clearly, producers saw an opportunity to create a love triangle, so they made sure Natascha’s name was called before Leslie’s at the rose ceremony — and thus, she gets to give Gary her rose. Which means...

Leslie gets stuck with Kim

With Gary off the table, Leslie had five other choices: CK, Kim, RJ, or Jack. “I’m kind of scrambling,” she laments. “I don’t really know who to pick.” Earlier in the episode, she confirmed that she has no “romantic feelings” for Kim — so it’s not entirely clear why she chose him over the others. Actually, what am I saying? Of course, we know why she chose him! Producers urged her to, because they knew he’d do something cringey like write her a poem and force her to listen to it the next day. Cut to:

The man just can’t help himself! He’s going to write a song and make you sing it, or write a poem and make you hear it, whether you want to or not. Bless.

Still, it’s clear that that Gary is still focused on getting to know Leslie — which means she’ll probably get his rose next week.

Kathy sticks with Keith

Sure, Kathy celebrated her birthday with a PG-72 rated body shot off CK’s chest — and then a smooch.

ABC

That doesn’t mean she’s looking to move on from Keith, though. “I have a really good connection with Keith,” she says, the morning after giving him her rose. Unfortunately, the moment Nancy arrives, we learn from Keith that he only likes Kathy as a friend. “I do not have a romantic connection with her,” he tells Nancy. “You’re beautiful, and I want to get to know you.”

A few minutes later, Faith arrives, riding up to the beach on a horse like a senior-citizen version of She-Ra.

ABC

Faith arrives on 'Bachelor in Paradise'

Yikes! Producers better send in some more men for our Golden girls, because with Faith and Nancy’s arrivals, there are now five Golden women on the beach... and only three men. Those ain’t great odds, even for these sexy sexagenarians and septuagenarians.

Bachelor in Paradise airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
