In a recent update, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has finally addressed the rumors surrounding Mike Flanagan's involvement in the upcoming DC Universe movie Clayface. The confusion arose after it was reported that the studio had enlisted writer Hossein Amini to rewrite Flanagan's screenplay. Gunn took to social media to clear the air and confirmed that the Doctor Sleep filmmaker's story would remain intact for the Clayface adaptation. He clarified that the new writer was only brought in to make minor changes to the project's shooting script. "It's all Mike's story. That's why we're making this movie, because we loved it. Any changes as the shooting script is finalized are minor. I'm a Flanafan myself," Gunn wrote. The Clayface movie will be directed by Speak No Evil director James Watkins from a screenplay written by Mike Flanagan. The adaptation will be led by Welsh actor Tom Rhys Harries (The Gentlemen, Kandahar) as the titular DC character, who is a fan-favorite Batman villain with shapeshifting abilities. The character was first created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane for DC Comics. The adaptation will reportedly center around a Hollywood horror tale centering on a B-movie actor who injects himself with a substance to keep himself relevant. Production is scheduled to commence later this year in the UK, with a release date set for September 11, 2026, as part of the DC Universe's Chapter One: Gods and Monsters saga. The movie promises to be a thrilling and chilling addition to the DC Universe, with its focus on a B-movie actor's desperate attempt to stay relevant in an industry that can be cruel and unforgiving. With Gunn's assurance that Flanagan's story will remain intact, fans of the director's work can look forward to seeing his unique vision brought to life on the big screen.
