The Waterfront: A Guide to the Season 1 Deaths That Rocked Havenport
Netflix's gripping family drama thriller, The Waterfront, follows the Buckley family as they battle to reclaim their power in Havenport. The Season 1 finale delivers shocking deaths as drug deals spiral and old grudges resurface. In this article, we will take a look at every significant death that rocks The Waterfront's inaugural season.
Grady and his henchmen
One of the most satisfying moments of the thriller comes in the form of the deaths of "narcissistic sociopath" Grady (Topher Grace) and his henchmen. After losing the entire heroin operation, which cost millions, Grady decides to kidnap Harlan's daughter Bree to get even. The final confrontation between Grady, his henchmen, and the Buckleys takes place in the middle of the ocean, fittingly for Harlan, who prides himself on being a seafaring man. Cane and Shawn successfully hide inside Harlan's boat and target Grady and his associates at the right time. After a futile attempt at making peace, the gang war ends with Cane shooting Grady as he drops into the ocean.
Marcus
DEA agent Marcus Sanchez dies as he is very close to catching the Buckleys in the act. Bree, the traumatized daughter of the Buckley family, initially helps the agent thinking he would only catch Cane and leave Harlan and Belle alone. However, after realizing both of her parents could go to jail, she changes her plan. Marcus was a former addict, and Bree gets some heroin for him. Her initial plan was to take photos of Marcus consuming drugs and use it as leverage. But her blackmailing plan fails when the DEA agent overdoses in front of her, leaving her petrified and guilty.
Clyde Porter aka Owen
Harlan kills Clyde Porter, aka Owen, in an act of self-defense. However, the corrupt sheriff's demise also helps the Buckley family to make some new pathways in their premature drug-dealing business. Owen dies at his garage when Harlan goes there to make a deal with him. The Buckley head wanted the sheriff to move out of his way so he could deal with Grady directly. However, the confrontation leads to a physical altercation quickly, ultimately resulting in Harlan stabbing Owen to save his own life.
Hoyt Piper
Hoyt Piper dies almost at the beginning of the show. He was one of the middlemen working for Grady and Owen to facilitate drug exports in Havenport. However, Owen kills him cold-bloodedly after realizing that he can directly make the Buckleys work for him.
In conclusion, The Waterfront Season 1 is a thrilling ride filled with unexpected twists and turns, including several major character deaths that reshape the small port town's power dynamics. From Grady and his henchmen to Marcus and Hoyt Piper, each death adds depth to the story and keeps viewers on the edge of their seats.
