Legendary classic rock band The Who has finally kicked off their epic farewell tour, called “The Song Is Over,” starting with an iconic show in Italy on July 20.
The 60s band — which consists of a touring lineup of Pete Townshend, Roger Daltrey, Simon Townshend, Loren Gold, John Button, Scott Devours, John Hogg, and Jody Linscott — played a rocking show at the Anfiteatro Camerini in Piazzola sul Brenta, Italy. The set consisted of 20 songs and featured a completely refreshed lineup since the controversy behind Ringo Starr’s son Zac Starkey’s departure from the group.

“I must say that although the road has not always been enjoyable for me, it is usually easy: the best job I could ever have had,” the guitarist explained in a previous statement announcing the farewell tour made back in May. “I keep coming back. Every time I do, I meet new fans and feel new energy.
He added, “Roger and I are in a good place, despite our age, eager to throw our weight behind this fond farewell to all our faithful fans, and hopefully to new ones who might jump in to see what they have been missing for the last 57 years. This tour will be about fond memories, love and laughter.”
The North American leg of the tour will kick off on August 16 in Florida and take the band through the end of September, where they’ll close things out in Las Vegas. That said, the group isn’t sure that they’ll finish their farewell tour in their native England afterwards.

In America, you seem to want to make it as easy as possible.”
The rocker added that he was “not confident” that there would be any British dates on the tour, calling the country “the land of ‘no.’” The band’s Las Vegas show is the last one they have scheduled at the time of this writing — but hopefully they get to say goodbye across the pond too.
