Ironheart star Dominique Thorne recently opened up about what it was like learning that the Disney+ series would introduce one of the most anticipated villains in the MCU.

The final episode of Ironheart features a surprise revelation. Sacha Baron Cohen, who had played a mysterious character who provided Anthony Ramos’ Parker Robbins his hood, is none other than Mephisto, one of Marvel Comics’ most iconic and devilish figures.

Although Thorne’s Riri Williams initially thinks Baron Cohen is none other than the cosmic entity Dormammu, he reveals he is, in fact, Mephisto. The revelation shocked fans, and according to Thorne, she didn’t know about it until very late into filming the show.

“I learned in the midst of our shooting,” Thorne told Variety about the surprise. “So, by the time they gave me the correct name in the script, it was like ‘Whoa, the Reddit guy! The guy from all the rumors. He’s in this show? OK, y’all are serious!’”

Thorne went on to say that it was an honor of sorts to have Marvel decide to introduce the character formally in her show, and that she believes it serves as a strategic move.

“The true Marvel fans know that Marvel always has a plan,” Thorne adds. “So, to know that they’ve chosen to introduce him here with Riri Williams, with Parker Robbins, it’s strategic and it has a place in the larger storytelling and in the larger twists and turns that this phase will continue to unveil. And it is just a joy to get a seat on that ride.”
