Jeep Recalls Defective Headrests

Jeep has issued a safety recall through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration over headrests. That might sound silly, but the problem could actually lead to head and neck injuries for passengers, so we wouldn’t blow this one off.

The new Sixpack Dodge Chargers sound like garbage.

The problem surrounds certain 2023 and 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L models. While not all contain the defective headrests, dealers will have to inspect each vehicle from those model years to determine which do.

If your Jeep needs new headrests, they will be installed free of charge. The good news is that should be a quick job.

According to the NHTSA safety campaign filing, some Grand Cherokees were assembled with second-row headrests that won’t lock in the upright position. In other words, if you have a taller person sitting on the second row and they need to put the headrest up, it could suddenly fall down in a crash.

That isn’t good since headrests are not only comfortable, they’re designed to keep your head from snapping back in a collision. This helps prevent neck injuries, so it is a safety issue. In fact, if headrests don’t lock into position, it’s a violation of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 202, “Head Restraints.”

One would think this issue is urgent enough that recall notices would be sent to Jeep owners immediately, but that isn’t the case. NHTSA says they’re due to be mailed out on September 5, 2025.

If you’re concerned about your vehicle being included in the recall, you can call FCA US LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. The number Jeep has issued for the recall is 20C. Or you can contact your local dealership.
