Jensen Ackless Father-Daughter Bonding Moment Over His New Series Countdown

Jensen Ackles, the star of the upcoming action-drama series Countdown, has shared the excitement of his 12-year-old daughter Justice for the show. In an interview with PEOPLE, Ackles revealed that his daughter is eager to see him in action on screen, as he believes she is old enough to watch the series. "I do think my oldest is old enough to watch this," Ackles said. "So she’s fired up to see it." He added that there were not many projects in his filmography that his children were able to watch yet, and that Justice had not really gotten to see her dad in action before. "And in this one, I’ll be in action," he said. In a separate interview with E! News, Ackles further elaborated on his daughter's enthusiasm for Countdown. He said that she was "dying and begging" him to watch the show, which stemmed from her love for ABC's The Rookie. Ackles noted that he told his daughter that Countdown would be different from The Rookie, featuring "a lot more action" and being "not nearly as soapy." The actor also revealed that he anticipated his daughter would compare his performance in Countdown to Nathan Fillion's portrayal of John Nolan in The Rookie. He recalled once calling Fillion and telling him about his daughter's obsession with his show, then asking the Castle actor to send her a happy birthday video. "Not only did he send one, he got the entire cast to send individual 'Happy Birthdays,'" Ackles said. "So that’s about the best gift a father could have given. And it cost me a phone call—so it was free." Countdown, created by Derek Haas, will see Ackles essaying the role of Mark Meachum, an LAPD detective who joins a secret task force comprised of undercover agents from all branches of law enforcement to investigate the murder of a Department of Homeland Security officer. The series will be released on Prime Video on June 25, 2025, and fans can expect a thrilling ride filled with action and suspense.
