From the Hardwood to the Screen: Jeremy Pargos Journey in The Final Play
Jeremy Pargo is a true renaissance man in the world of sports and entertainment. As a former professional basketball player, he has not only made a name for himself on the court but has also ventured into the worlds of writing, producing, and acting. Under the umbrella of his own production company, Pargo Productions, he has brought his unique perspective and passion for storytelling to the screen.
The latest project from Pargo is the romantic comedy "The Final Play," which is available on Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV. The film follows a former pro basketball player on a heartfelt and comedic journey to find love and fulfillment. The storyline revolves around facing fears and making the ultimate final play in life, just like in the game of basketball. Directed by Tailiah Breon and starring Vanessa D. Fant, Aaron Goldenberg, Brendan Goshay, and Pargo himself, "The Final Play" runs for 1 hour and 48 minutes and has an IMDb rating of 6.2.
This is not the first time a professional basketball player has ventured into acting. New Orleans Pelicans forward Kelly Olynyk recently starred in Netflix's "Running Point," alongside Kate Hudson, Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur, and Brenda Song. Olynyk plays "Portland big man" in the TV series, which follows Isla Gordon after she is appointed President of the LA Waves basketball team, a family business, when her brother enters rehab.
While Pargo's acting career is certainly impressive, he is still active in the game at the age of 39. Both overseas and in Ice Cube's Big3 during the summer, Pargo is the captain of the Detroit Amps alongside co-captains Darnell Jackson and Joe Johnson. The rest of the roster consists of Shakur Juiston and Ray Nixon, while George "The Iceman" Gervin coaches the team. Last season, Pargo averaged 18.3 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game with the Triplets. He also shattered the Big 3's single-season four-point record with 7 from way downtown.
Pargo's basketball career has been equally impressive. He was named the 2008 West Coast Conference Player of the Year and played with the Memphis Grizzlies, Cleveland Cavaliers, Philadelphia 76ers, and Golden State Warriors. In 86 NBA games, he averaged 4.8 points, 1.8 assists, and 1.0 rebounds per game.
Internationally, Pargo has competed in Israel, Russia, China, Italy, Lebanon, Spain, and Iceland. He is a four-time Israeli League champion, named to the 2011 All-EuroLeague Second Team, a 2011 Russian League champion, a 2014 VTB League champion, and the 2016 Chinese Basketball Association assists leader.
