Julian McMahon remembered: His best performances, from ‘Nip/Tuck’ to ‘Fantastic Four’

Julian McMahon, who earned a Golden Globe nomination for his role on the FX series Nip/Tuck, died July 2 after a battle with cancer. He was 56.
In a statement to Deadline, his wife, Kelly McMahon said: “With an open heart, I wish to share with the world that my beloved husband, Julian McMahon, died peacefully this week after a valiant effort to overcome cancer. Julian loved life. He loved his family. He loved his friends. He loved his work, and he loved his fans. His deepest wish was to bring joy into as many lives as possible. We ask for support during this time to allow our family to grieve in privacy. And we wish for all of those to whom Julian brought joy, to continue to find joy in life. We are grateful for the memories.”

Charmed (2000-03)
McMahon began his acting career in his native Australia on soap operas before moving to the United States and landing a role on NBC's Another World. He first gained stateside fame on The WB's Charmed, where he played Alyssa Milano's love interest, Cole Porter, for three seasons.
Nip/Tuck (2003-10)
"Tell me what you don't like about yourself." With that line, McMahon — and his costar, Dylan Walsh —helped define one of FX's signature series, as playboy plastic surgeons obsessed with appearances. McMahon earned a Golden Globe nomination, and the show —created by Ryan Murphy — was twice-nominated for Best Drama at the Golden Globes, winning in 2005. It also received a total of 18 Emmy nominations throughout its six-season run. McMahon was also nominated for a Gold Derby TV Award as lead actor in 2004.
Fantastic Four (2005) and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007)
McMahon often gravitated to playing villains, which he did in Fantastic Four and its sequel as Victor Von Doom a.k.a Doctor Doom.Directed by Tim Story, both films also starred Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, and Michael Chiklis as Marvel's First Family, who have a long, tortured history with Doom. The role will be played by Robert Downey Jr. in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.
The Residence (2025)
McMahon's most recent role was playing the prime minister of Australia on Netflix's The Residence, starring Uzo Aduba and created by Shonda Rhimes. The series was recently canceled after one season.
