While the pair’s statement is a rare update on their personal lives, it’s not the first time the Inception actress had spoken out on her relationship. In fact, amid rumors in 2016 that she was having an affair with her Allied costar Brad Pitt, Marion squashed online speculation by defending her romance and announcing she was pregnant with her and Guillaume’s second baby.

“I am not used to commenting on things like this nor taking them seriously,” she wrote on Instagram at the time, “but as this situation is spiraling and affecting people I love, I have to speak up.”

“Firstly, many years ago, I met the man of my life, father of our son and of the baby we are expecting,” Marion continued. “He is my love, my best friend, the only one that I need.”

Addressing the critics directly, she concluded, “Secondly to those who have indicated that I am devastated, I am very well, thank you. This crafted conversation isn’t distressing.”
