Mercedes-AMG GT Track Sport Is A "Concept" Meant To Reclaim Porsche's Title

Concept AMG GT Track Sport Has Obvious Intentions
The AMG GT replaced the monstrous SLS, and instead of another niche supercar, Mercedes decided to take aim at the Porsche 911. That's been especially evident in recent times, with the GT 63 PRO positioning itself as a 911 GT3 alternative, and it's about to become even more obvious with the next version to roll out of Affalterbach's workshop. Mercedes calls this the Concept AMG GT Track Sport, but this is clearly more than just a concept; it's a sign of an imminent addition to the lineup, and the top-hung rear wing suggests that the new variant's target will be the venerable GT3 RS, as do vented fenders...
What We Know So Far

Mercedes says that "the camouflaged high-performance project is being finalized before it has to prove itself on test tracks," adding that the concept "provides a preview of a possible expansion of the GT series with a V8 engine." The existence of a Michelin street tire in these images confirms that this concept is not meant to be confined to the track, but that's still where it will shine brightest; AMG says the concept is "designed for absolute dynamic driving performance to set new standards and record times."
The Porsche 911 GT2 RS with a Manthey Racing Kit beat the AMG GT Black Series' time of 6:48.047 just seven months after it was set, posting a 6:43.3 in June 2021, and the only other records worth mentioning are the outright record (already secured by the AMG ONE) and the manual production car record set by the 911 GT3, which the automatic-only AMG GT has no interest in.
Power Figures Should Be High

The decision to call this concept "Track Sport" rather than Black Series indicates that it's not necessarily going to have ludicrous output. The AMG GT PRO we mentioned at the outset has 603 horsepower, but it also has a 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system. The old AMG GT Black Series made 720 hp, all of which went to the rear wheels. We assume the Track Sport will fall somewhere between the two in the power stakes and deploy everything to the rear axle. Especially since this is described as "uncompromising."
We expect our spies to see camouflaged vehicles almost identical to this on the 'Ring before long, possibly before the "concept" is revealed, and then a confirmation of production intent before the end of the year. Before then, more teasers are likely. Stay tuned.
