Who's muscling up in the music world?

It's Rick Springfield, whose Mr. Universe body belies his age of 75. Fans are going ga-ga on the internet and at Springfield’s I Want My '80s Tour shows with John Waite, Wang Chung and Paul Young.

“What pact with the devil did he make to look this good at 75?!” commented a fan on TikTok.

“I have vampire blood,” quipped Springfield during an interview with the Asbury Park Press. The rocker has two I Want my '80s Tour shows with coming up in the area: Friday, July 11, at the Hard Rock Hotel in Atlantic City, and Saturday, July 12, at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark.

Rick Springfield performs during the KAABOO Texas Music Festival in 2019 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

“I cut back on drinking quite a bit and I work out pretty much every day,” Springfield said. “I'm pescatarian, but I'll eat meat now and then.”

His time on stage — singing hits like “Jessie’s Girl,” “Don’t Talk to Strangers,” "I've Done Everything For You," “Love Somebody,” “Human Touch” and "Rock of Life" — counts as an aerobic exercise.

“Playing is a great aerobic workout,” Springfield said. “I usually come off pretty drenched.”

Springfield, whose professional career started in the 1960s in his native Australia, is among a field of musicians who are touring and playing in their 70s and beyond. The group includes Bruce Springsteen, 75; Mick Jagger, 81, and Keith Richards, 81, of the Rolling Stones; Paul McCartney, 83; and Willie Nelson, 91.

“We're all getting older and we're all still amazed that we're still doing it, still, and have the energy and the drive for it,” Springfield said. “Certainly people like Mick Jagger are pretty freaky, and I guess we're seeing how long we can do it.”

Springfield is also known for his acting, having appeared as Dr. Noah Drake on “General Hospital” in the early 1980s.

“As you get older there's more to say, and I think it's great to stay alive to be able to say those things and have the energy to say those things,” Springfield said. “It's kind of uncharted territory for everybody. I never thought I'd be doing this at 75 — I'm going to be 76 in August. It's all surprise to all of us. I guess the music is aging so well?”
