Rob Lowe opened up about one of his favorite movie scenes from his Brat Pack days. The actor, who was named a member of the notorious acting “club” in David Blum’s famous 1985 New York magazine cover story, revealed that one of his favorite acting moments was a scene in St. Elmo’s Fire in which he performed a sweaty saxophone solo.

"I think playing the saxophone in that bar was a highlight," Lowe, 61,told People magazine in an interview. "It doesn't get any more 1980s movie moment than playing your sweaty sax solo with your iconic bat shirt on and then getting in a brawl."

"It was just a great moment that those writers gave my character, and I'll never forget it," the actor added.

Lowe previously told Sirius XM’s E Street Radio that he modeled his saxophone playing after Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band legend, Clarence Clemons. “I loved Clarence, loved the big man, and I was, like, gonna pattern a lot of my schtick after the big man. The way I wore my saxophone like a guitar strap instead of on the front right is just a total rip-off from Clarence,” the actor admitted.

Lowe, who starred alongside Demi Moore, Andrew McCarthy, Emilio Estevez, Ally Sheedy, Judd Nelson, and Mare Winningham in St. Elmo’s Fire, has teased a strong possibility of a sequel decades later.

"There's a script due any minute," he told Today.com in a May 2025 interview. “And hopefully it will be good, and we'll go off and make it. It's contingent on the script, obviously, but we've been developing it for quite a while, and everybody's super excited to do it.”

“Everybody wants to do it,” Lowe added of the original St. Elmo’s Fire cast. "We're going to give it a last hurrah with this one for sure."
