Semi Crash Leaves Truck Dangling Over Wyoming CanyonA semi which crashed on a notorious highway in Wyoming almost fell down a deep canyon, the truck dangling precariously over the barrier. Images of the crash aftermath shared on social media by Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office almost look like something out of a movie, it’s all so unbelievable.
A new law in Florida has some enthusiasts considering selling their fast cars.
That stretch of highway, US 14A just east of Lovell, Wyoming, is known by locals for being rather scary. The road is steep and there are many turns with little room for error, which is presumably how the truck driver found himself hanging out on the wrong side of the barrier.
The crash happened early on July 22. You can see from the photos the only thing keeping the commercial truck from plunging down the steep canyon wall was the driver-side front tire getting caught on the safety barrier on he side of the highway.
Cody Beers, a public relations specialist with the Wyoming Department of Transportation, told reporters he even gets nervous driving that stretch of road, reports KTVQ.
According to Beers, the week before an RV caught fire, the back end being completely destroyed. The cause was the driver riding the brakes down the steep descent. People who haven’t lived around big mountains don’t understand why downshifting is not just a good idea but something that could save your life.
Thankfully, it sounds like from what Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office said, the driver of the semi was able to get himself out of the cab and to safety. He suffered some minor injuries, but that beats becoming a pancake at the bottom of a remote, rugged canyon.
Heavy equipment was called in to hoist the truck back onto the highway and tow it away. Crews weren’t certain if they could pull that off considering the precarious nature of the situation, but they did. But that required closing down the highway for most of day.
