Superman 2 Gets Disappointing Update in New Report

Superman 2 may not be as likely as we thought.
James Gunn’s Superman movie is now playing in United States theaters. The DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures film stars David Corenswet as the titular superhero, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.
So far, Superman has grossed around $250 million globally, about $155 million of which came from the United States.
While a direct Superman sequel hasn’t been officially confirmed to be happening, Gunn previously hinted that something along those lines was being developed. He recently told Entertainment Weekly, “What I’m working on is in some way…I mean, yes, yes, yes, yes. But is it a straight-upSupermansequel? I would not say necessarily.”
What is the update on Superman 2?
According to a new report from Variety, Warner Bros. “has sequel options on Corenswet and Brosnahan.” However, “a sequel announcement does not appear to be imminent.”

It seems likely that fans of Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU likely won’t have to wait that long for Superman to return. What Gunn is working on now sounds like it could potentially involve the Man of Steel, while it’s also possible that Corenswet could appear in the Supergirl movie that is releasing in 2026.
Having said that, if a Superman 2 announcement isn’t “imminent” at Warner Bros. Pictures, it could then be a bit before Brosnahan or some of the other supporting characters who appear in the movie return, such as Skyler Gisondo’s Jimmy Olsen, Beck Bennett’s Steve Lombard, Wendell Pierce’s Perry White, Pruitt Taylor Vince’s Jonathan Kent, or Neva Howell’s Martha Kent.
The next DCU project after Superman will be Peacemaker Season 2, which will premiere on HBO Max on August 21, 2025.
