The Venice Film Festival is the oldest film festival in the world and has become increasingly important as the unofficial kickoff to awards season. Recent Best Picture winners such as "The Shape of Water" and "Nomadland" premiered at the festival, and Emma Stone began her journey to winning the Best Actress Oscar there.
