Why ‘Golden’ Cast Members Aren’t in the ‘Bachelor in Paradise’ Premiere originally appeared on Parade.

Bachelor in Paradise has an age-gap shakeup planned for season 10, but viewers won’t see stars from The Golden Bachelor and The Golden Bachelorette mingling with the rest of the cast until after the premiere.

Only past contestants from The Bachelor and The Bachelorette will appear in the Monday, July 7, premiere and the second episode of the season, which airs on Monday, July 14. ABC has confirmed that the Goldencast members will not make their Paradise debut until the third episode on Tuesday, July 15.

Host Jesse Palmer clarified why the older contestants were excluded from the first two episodes of the season.

“It was a grand entrance,” Palmer, 46, told Swooon in an interview published on Monday. “I’m happy we gave them their stage and their moment to kind of do that.”

Palmer teased that producers had a good reason for staging separate arrivals for the Golden cast members, especially amid some fans’ concerns about two vastly different age groups appearing on the same show for the first time in the franchise’s history.

“I do think part of the structure of Paradise was to encourage both generations to stay in their respective generational lane when it comes to dating,” he said. “Essentially, what I encouraged everyone to do was not make it weird.”

While Palmer didn’t rule out an age-gap romance occurring on Bachelor in Paradise, he noted that the division of the two groups early on simplified the process.

“I’m in a situation where I’m never gonna tell somebody who you’re allowed to love and who you’re not allowed to love or fall in love with, but there’s an encouragement to keep it over here,” he explained. “And you’ll see, I think the structure throughout the season, it’s sort of set that way. I imagine them arriving when they did kind of allowed relationships to start forming with the younger cast, and when the Goldens arrived, they could focus on each other.”

The season 10 cast includes Golden alumsLeslie Fhima, Kathy Swarts, Natascha Hardee, April Kirkwood, Kim Buike, RJ Johnson, Gary Levingston, Charles King, Jack Lencioni and Keith Gordon as well as former Bachelor and Bachelorette contestants Dale Moss, Kat Izzo, Justin Glaze and more.
