Believe It Or Not, This 1979 Ford F-150 Is One Rare Beast

You’re forgiven if upon looking at this 1979 Ford F-150 you think in its derelict state it’s worth very little money. After all, old Ford trucks like this one dot the landscape throughout America, making them rather commonplace and thus not worth much. But this one is special.

Twin-turbo Ford F100 was inspired by none other than Steve McQueen.

It sometimes takes a trained eye and educated mind to perceive the value in certain classics. In this case, professional car hunter Dennis Collins says he’s been circling this truck for some time, trying to make a deal.

According to Collins, for the 1979 model year, Ford made 985,000 F-150s – that’s a lot. But only about 7,956-ish of them were Flaresides, which if you haven’t guessed is what this particular pickup is. But there’s so much more that makes it a one-in-a-million truck.

As they go to rescue the Ford and pay the owner handsomely for it, Collins explains that while the F-150 is purple, the color code is maroon, so it’s been repainted. It has painted bumpers and side mirrors as part of the Freewheeling Package, plus the push bar is a factory-installed option.

Plus, the thing is a short bed Flareside, which is unusual.

Also included is the Ranger Package with a black cloth and vinyl bench seat. The rear window has a sliding portion, which is another piece of optional equipment installed on the assembly line. Plus, there are quad shocks up front, another super rare factory option.

Under the hood is a 351ci V8, plus power steering and brakes, so this truck is well-optioned. And it’s a four-wheel-drive model, a huge plus.

As optioned, Collins believes there isn’t another 1979 F-150 like it. That’s why he rescued it and will have it fully restored, bringing the Ford back to its original glory. The finished product is going to be awesome and will surely sell for a good chunk of change.
