Before the officer’s bodycam footage starts, another cop in a cruiser spotted a driver behaving erratically and tried to conduct a traffic stop. But the suspect had other plans, running from the vehicle and getting away on foot.
That’s when other police in the area start combing around for the suspect. This motorcycle cop spots him in a parking lot as the suspect is carjacking an innocent victim at gunpoint.
When the officer turns his motorcycle around to see what’s happening, because he doesn’t fully realize the guy is in fact the suspect, nor that he has a gun and is taking someone’s car. But the second he spots the firearm in the man’s hands, the officer moves rapidly.
In one fluid motion he dumps the bike and has his sidearm unholstered. Without skipping a beat, the officer is running, making himself a harder target while getting a better angle on the suspect. That’s the result of superior training.
If you’ve ever seen cops get trained on motorcycles, they learn techniques like this. Your average person doesn’t even have the muscle memory to do this sort of thing automatically.
That rapid dumping of the bike, unholstering his weapon, and running likely saved the police officer’s life. As he orders the suspect to surrender, the guy shoots at him. Had the cop stayed on the motorcycle he would’ve been a sitting duck.
Instead, the officer returns fire, hitting the suspect and ending the threat to him and anyone else around. This is all thanks to repetitive, rigorous training.
