Dead by Daylight Devs Address Nerfed Bloodpoints Accusations

RaeganGames2025-07-074100

After recent reports that Dead by Daylight players are receiving fewer bloodpoints than usual, a developer has come forward to address this concern. During anniversary events such as the Twisted Masquerade, players are eligible to receive a special anniversary cake that will give them additional bloodpoints in a match. In years past, this cake has appeared randomly up to 2-3 times per match, and fans have noticed that it is appearing far less frequently than usual following a recent update to Dead by Daylight.

Despite frustration with this potential change to the formula, Dead by Daylight is currently breaking player records, indicating that it might not be a dealbreaker for everyone. Of course, much of the game's success can also be attributed to its many collaborations with other franchises, such as Stranger Things, Silent Hill, Alien, and Five Nights at Freddy's. It's entirely possible for fans to appreciate one aspect of the game and to be upset with another detail simultaneously.

After releasing the 9.0.2 Bugfix Patch, a Dead by Daylight developer on Reddit confirmed that players are receiving the number of cakes intended, implying that the way anniversary cakes work has fundamentally changed. This revelation was met with negative comments and reactions from fans who were frustrated with what was initially thought to be a bug; players hoping to see the issue fixed instead discovered that this would be the new norm for anniversary cakes going forward. That said, this is far from the first time that Dead by Daylight developers changed the formula, either through gameplay elements or how perks are earned.

Dead by Daylight Developer Confirms “Cakes Are Appearing as Intended”

This news definitely comes as a shock to players who weren't expecting such a change, and unfortunately the subject did not come up when Dead by Daylight developers discussed future plans for the franchise recently. While frustrated fans on Reddit had a lot to say about this comment, the most common refrain focused on how this change will make grinding for bloodpoints more stressful and difficult.

It seems that Behaviour Interactive are quite happy to keep the difficulty level of accruing bloodpoints in Dead by Daylight relatively high, and the developers don't view it as a problem. While hundreds of fans have already responded negatively, it remains to be seen if this change will create a major backlash. Regardless of whether the change to anniversary cakes was intended, it's fair to say that the developers could have chosen a more polite way to reveal this detail to its player base.
