Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate Expansion - Major Exotic Gear and Class-Specific Updates

BenjaminGames2025-06-228310

Bungie has revealed the upcoming changes to exotic weapons and armor in Destiny 2's The Edge of Fate expansion, with many underappreciated and underpowered gear pieces set to be impacted. With just weeks to go before the expansion's launch, Bungie is continuing to highlight and answer various questions about how the new content is going to change the core loot chase experience in Destiny 2.

Expected changes include sweeping balance adjustments to weapons and armor, similar to what was done with previous major releases like Episode Heresy in February. The Edge of Fate expansion is bringing even more significant changes to exotic gear at launch.

Some of the changes include:

  • Boots of the Assembler, one of the most impacted exotic armors, will receive major changes to help it compete with the current most popular support exotic called Speaker's Sight.
  • Other underused exotic gear like the Hunter's Blight Ranger helm and Warlock's rift-based Promethium Spurs will also be reworked to make them more appealing for use.
  • Bungie has also tried to make certain exotics feel more unique, with changes like dodging impacting the new stats system for The Dragon's Shadow and Speedloader Slacks providing benefits to allies in PvE activities.

In addition to these changes, Bungie has also detailed specific changes for each class's exotics:

  • For Hunters, Athrys's Embrace will see an increased PvE Weighted Throwing Knife damage bonus, while Liar's Handshake and Spirit of the Liar will see increased basic melee and Arc melee damage. The Dragon's Shadow will now passively increase weapon stability and ready speed, while Speedloader Slacks will adjust its Tight Fit perk to reload all weapons on dodge and grant increased handling and reload speed for you and nearby allies.
  • For Titans, Heart of Inmost Light will see an increased maximum PvE melee damage bonus, while Peregrine Greaves will see increased shoulder charge ability impact damage bonus against non-Champion, non-Tormentor, and non-miniboss targets. Wormgod Caress will also see an increased maximum PvE melee damage bonus.
  • For Warlocks, Winter's Guile will see an increased maximum PvE melee damage bonus, while Starfire Protocol will now activate on Radiant damage and increase the Fusion Grenade energy gain from dealing damage. Felwinters Helm will now apply a 15% weaken effect on powered melee damage, while Promethium Spurs will rework its Embers of Light perk to grant class ability energy on weapon defeats in a rift.

Overall, it'll be interesting to see how these new changes fit within the meta, especially with the upcoming changes to the armor system that ditch the current system for a new one that is easier to work with and understand.
