Drag Racing Camaro Gets Obliterated

A built Camaro wrecked out big time while drag racing a Grove Creek Raceway in Minnesota recently. The scary incident, which was caught on camera, unfolded so rapidly, you have to slow down the video to really tell what happened.

Everything seemed fine as the sixth-gen Camaro did its burnout, heating up the rear tires in preparation for a nice clean launch. People were obviously excited for it to race a built Fox Body Mustang, both of them obviously heavily modified for straight-line runs.

As the two muscle cars launched off the line, they were seemingly neck and neck, making it a close race which might have come down to the wire. But suddenly the Camaro veered to the right, almost hit the back end of the Ford, then gets obliterated by the barrier.

It all happened in the blink of an eye. But in the footage, if you look closely enough, you can see right before the Chevy driver loses control, the car goes over an obvious bump in its lane. That got the back end to break loose, and it was all over in an instant.

We’re not here to make accusations, but many people are asking why the track didn’t spot and rectify the bump. In hindsight, it seems like an obvious safety risk.

Footage of the aftermath is horrific. The Camaro was in the grass on the other side of the wall, the front end just gone, as people try to open the door while talking to the driver. Miraculously, the guy not only survived the horrific crash, he walked away with some minor injuries to his legs and ankles.

This is a real testament to well-built cars with quality safety equipment. We know racing is expensive, but cutting corners on the chassis, safety cage, and other essentials like that could come with an exceptionally high cost.
