However, if he waits six months after the trade, that extension could be worth as much as $124 million. Charania pointed out during his appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" that there could be a team that takes a "swing" and bets on themselves, regardless of whether there is mutual long-term interest from Durant. He compared this potential scenario to the Toronto Raptors' trade for Kawhi Leonard in the summer of 2018, where the Raptors won an NBA championship in 2019 but Leonard still signed with the Los Angeles Clippers in free agency.
