They talked about it months in advance, agreed on the dates, and the man booked a $1,100 flight after they confirmed the details.
However, three weeks before the trip, one of his friends backed out to travel with his girlfriend in Mongolia. The second friend "stayed in touch but was pretty flaky,” ignoring all of his calls and giving vague updates.
“Then he told me his siblings were visiting him in Asia around the same time, and asked if they could join the trip. I said yes, reworked the plan, and stayed flexible,” the man shares.

“I asked them if they’d consider covering half of my flight as a gesture of accountability. I emphasized it wasn’t about punishment, just about respect," he adds. "They said they couldn’t.“
While the man still went on the trip to China alone, he is feeling "pretty hurt and bitter."
"I feel like I was tossed aside after months of planning and commitment," he writes. "I didn’t yell or guilt trip them — I just asked."
"Some people I talked to say I was out of line to ask for money at all. Others think it was totally fair to ask given the situation," he concludes. "So, AITA for asking my friends to help cover my flight after they bailed on me last-minute?"

Another commenter was more blunt, adding, “They wasted your time and money, they should pay. They're not your friend, move on. You deserve better!”
