Both road-legal and race-bred Porsches from the generations converged on FAT Mankei restaurant in Austria recently. It was a unique way to celebrate the popular rest stop on Grossglockner High Alpine Road, where many enthusiasts refuel themselves while drinking in the sweeping turns and breathtaking landscape.
The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT sets two more track records.
Ferdinand Porsche is the one who came up with the idea as a rest stop for gearheads road tripping through the mountains. That’s not Ferdinand the founder of Porsche but rather his grandson, who’s still alive.

FAT Mankei opened in May 2023 and has become a favorite for car meets. Porsche decided to get in on the action with a two-day event where it paraded out road and race cars spread throughout the 77 year history of the iconic brand.
Photos of the event are pure eye candy, especially for fans of Porsche. Seeing the Valliant 917/30 Spyder and the Paris Dakar 911 Carrera 3.2 4x4 parked by each other with snow-capped mountains in the background is breathtaking.
There was even a Porsche Renndienst van crafted from the new VW ID Buzz in attendance.

“The response we have received over the last two years has been nothing short of overwhelming,” said Ferdinand Porsche.
“When we established FAT International, the vision was to create a brand that encompasses all aspects of car culture, so when the opportunity came to establish FAT Mankei as a rest area and hang-out spot on arguably one of the world’s greatest driving roads, we could not say no.
“We have worked tirelessly to expand not only the parking and access, but also the frequency of events for those wanting to experience it first-hand. To welcome the Porsche community here across two days – and bring together a huge range of iconic cars from our history – is a surreal experience but one that should be embraced and shared with others.”
As enthusiasts, we have a new bucket list destination when we visit Austria next.
