Fully restored and upgraded 1995 Land Rover Defender 90 NAS blends rugged British heritage with modern upgrades after extensive European rebuild.

A rare 1995 Land Rover Defender 90 NAS, fully restored and upgraded after a European rebuild, is heading to auction, offering collectors a chance to own one of the most sought-after off-road icons in U.S. Land Rover history.

The North American Specification (NAS) Defender 90 was introduced in 1994 and quickly became a cult favorite thanks to its military-inspired styling, utilitarian design, and impressive all-terrain performance. Only 1,190 examples of the 1995 model year were imported to the United States, making each one highly collectible.

This particular example, number 104 of the NAS production run, originally left the factory in Alpine White with a 3.9-liter V8 and a five-speed R380 manual transmission. However, after suffering fire damage in 2013 that resulted in a California salvage title, the truck underwent a full nut-and-bolt restoration by ClassicSUV, a European specialist known for high-end Land Rover builds.

The extensive restoration included a complete engine rebuild—with machined heads, new pistons, camshaft, oil pump, and seals—as well as fully renewed drivetrain, differentials, suspension, and braking system. The chassis was sandblasted, anti-corrosion treated, and refinished to OEM standards. A new bulkhead, wiring harness, and clutch assembly were also installed.

Cosmetic and comfort upgrades were equally comprehensive. The Defender now wears a matte black finish over a Kahn Design body kit, featuring smoked lenses, a revised grille, and 20-inch Chelsea Truck Company wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2s. Inside, the utilitarian cabin has been transformed with black diamond-stitched Nappa leather, a Pioneer infotainment system, soundproofing, and a StarTech steering wheel.

Despite its rebuilt history, the truck is now offered on an unbranded New Jersey title, with the consignor emphasizing its restored NAS identity and improved reliability. “This is not just a cosmetic upgrade — it’s essentially a new Defender built to original specifications with modern refinements,” the seller noted.

The Defender 90 NAS remains a highly collectible model, prized for its Safari Cage, distinctive NAS badging, and rugged heritage that traces back to the original 1948 Land Rover Series I. See it here.
