On June 19, 2025, Sloclap's Rematch saw a remarkable success with over 92,000 concurrent players on its first day of release. Despite stiff competition from larger studios like EA Sports FC 25, which had 60,328 concurrent players on the same day, Rematch managed to surpass its biggest competitor in the soccer game space by a wide margin.

The hype surrounding Rematch was palpable leading up to its release, thanks to Sloclap's strong reputation for games like Sifu and a successful beta. The excitement seemed to have carried over into the full release, with Rematch generating a "Mostly Positive" review score on Steam and sitting at the top of the Top Sellers list.

However, not everything was rosy for Rematch on its debut day. The lack of day-one cross-play support stirred some controversy, leading Sloclap to issue an apology to fans on launch day. Despite this setback, fans still poured into the game's servers in droves, showing their support for the indie soccer sim.

Pre-ordering the Pro/Elite editions of Rematch grants players 72 hours of advanced access and various cosmetics, but is the extra cost worth it? According to Rematch's SteamDB charts, the game drew a peak of 92,841 simultaneous players during its first day. This is impressive in any context, but it's even more so when considering Rematch's competition from big names like EA Sports FC 25.

While Rematch hasn't yet surpassed EA Sports FC 25's all-time numbers since coming out of beta (the beta drew over 159,000 players at once), it's off to a strong start. Sloclap has promised plenty of improvements and new features down the line, including cross-play support and an offline mode. As these updates come to the title, it could make an even bigger splash in the industry.

Regardless of its competition and update schedule, Rematch already seems like a marked success for Sloclap. Nearing 100,000 concurrent players is no small feat, and that's only on Steam. It's worth noting that Rematch was a day-one Xbox Game Pass title, so it has a chance to make a solid impression on consoles as well. While the game may not have included all the features fans wanted it to at launch, it's sure to improve as its developers continue to roll out patches.
