'Superman' Director James Gunn Dubs ‘Paddington 2’ as 'One of the Greatest Movies Ever'

While James Gunn has directed high-profile films, he's also overseen even more as the co-CEO of DC Studios. However, it quickly became apparent during a recent interview that the Superman director has watched far more movies as a fan than anything else.

This alone made his comments about several movies during an interview with Konbini even more noteworthy. While Gunn highlighted several action movies and various other types, he offered a bold statement about one specific beloved bear.

Gunn was looking through a plethora of different DVDs when he came across a Paddington film he said he hadn't seen, but immediately referenced Paddington 2.

"Paddington 2 is a classic film. It's one of the greatest movies ever made," Gunn said. "People think that I'm being ironic when I say that. I am not, I am absolutely telling the truth."

For all the critics and fans who have given Paddington 2 high marks, and there are a lot, Gunn might be one of the movie's biggest fans.

While his admission that people think he's being "ironic" with that comment isn't surprising, Gunn's feelings are aligned with the exceptional reviews Paddington 2 received.

The 2017 sequel, which followed the popular 2014 movie Paddington, boasts an eye-opening 99 percent critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, along with an 89 percent grade on the fan-focused Popcornmeter. The incredible ratings prove the Superman director's comments are far from outlandish.

As for Gunn, all eyes are on the newest Superman movie, which hit theaters on July 11. David Corenswet stars as the Man of Steel, with Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult in the lead villain role, portraying Lex Luthor.
