Like a scene out of Mario Kart, a Toyota Land Cruiser crashed through a mall during a police chase, terrifying shoppers. Thankfully nobody was injured during the incident, even though some witnesses claim they or others were just inches away from getting hit.
Ford Raptor gets destroyed out of sheer stupidity.
After using the 200-Series Land Cruiser to crash through one set of doors into the mall, the suspect drove through the halls and smashed through a second set of doors. The move apparently helped him escape pursuing police.
This went down in Melbourne, Australia at a time when the mall was apparently packed with shoppers. Footage at the scene shows one of two bollards in front of both mall entrances almost flattened to the ground, thanks to the heavyweight, body-on-frame off-roader.
Just before that, police cornered the suspect in the mall parking lot. Instead of just giving up, the criminal rammed a cruiser repeatedly with the Land Cruiser, shoving it out of the way before driving through the mall doors.
No wonder the fleeing criminal was able to escape without trouble.
“It sounded like gunshots,” one witness told 9 News Australia, clearly unfamiliar with what real gunshots sound like.
Land Cruisers are rather popular vehicles Down Under, which has quite a bit of rough terrain in the Outback. Some locals have a saying there: “If you want to get somewhere, go in a Land Rover. If you want to get back home, go in a Land Cruiser.”
With the popularity of Land Cruisers in Australia, there’s a big problem with criminals stealing them. While that’s driven by demand for people who want parts of whole vehicles on the cheap, you can see the Toyota off-roader makes for an excellent getaway vehicle since they’re both tough and highly capable.
