Path of Exile 2 Introducing New Challenge for Players at Gamescom 2025

KimoraGames2025-07-229590

Path of Exile 2 will host a Boss Rush event at Gamescom 2025, offering participants the chance to win exclusive prizes. Developed by Grinding Gear Games, Path of Exile 2 is the sequel to the critically acclaimed PoE 1, which entered early access in December 2024.

Initial reception to GGG’s highly anticipated ARPG was generally positive, with fans praising the intricate skill system, upgraded graphics, and addictive gameplay loop. However, due to a multitude of factors, a lack of endgame content being chief among them, a large percentage of the player base chose to return to PoE 1, leaving the newer title in a bit of a lurch. Fortunately, PoE 2’s 4-month league cycle allows it to get another shot at clawing back lost ground very soon.

In an official forum thread on the Path of Exile 2 website, Grinding Gear Games announced a Boss Rush event to be held at Gamescom 2025 in Cologne, Germany. The event will run from August 20-24, and will be held at Hall 6.1 C071/A070. Participants will be asked to choose between seven premade characters with fixed stats, skills, and equipment, then attempt to defeat as many of the 15 bosses as they can within 20 minutes. Depending on how well they do, they will get a chance to earn exclusive prizes only available at the event.

GGG appears confident that few, if any, players will be able to defeat all 15 bosses, not only due to the difficulty involved, but also due to many bosses being brand-new to PoE 2, forcing participants to contend with unfamiliar mechanics. In all likelihood, the difficulty tier will be the same or perhaps even higher than the hardest pinnacle bosses in Path of Exile 2. A live leaderboard above the event booth will display the Exiles with the highest scores.

Since eventgoers will not be allowed to play their own characters, using PoE 2’s best endgame builds to cheese the event will not be possible. Preconstructed characters promise a true test of skill, adaptability, and reflexes.

While the format of the event has drawn praise from fans eager to participate, many have noticed the convenient timing. On July 11, it was announced that Path of Exile 2’s next league was scheduled for August 29. Keen-eyed observers caught on that there is little chance this was an accident, as GGG is likely hoping the marketing wave from Gamescom will carry over to Patch 0.3’s release, drawing more players into the new league.
